In the wake of an Arkansas grain dealer going belly up and rocking the Arkansas agriculture community, lawmakers consider a bill to require licenses for grain dealers operating in the state. According to lawmakers, two laws already regulate some aspects of grain buying and selling through the federal and state warehouse laws.

WYNNE, AR - The Cross County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying a burglary suspect. The man seen in these photos is suspected in the theft of a generator from a home in the 3000-block of Highway 163 North in Wynne.
Police search for man in wig who robbed grocery store
WYNNE, AR - Police are investigating after a man in a wig robbed a grocery store in Wynne. According to a news release from Wynne police, officers were called to the Hay's grocery store, 115 South Falls Blvd., around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in reference to an armed robbery.
Person of interest arrested on ASU campus with loaded gun
JONESBORO, AR - A person of interest in a murder case out of Wynne was apprehended on Arkansas State University's campus with a broken headlight and a loaded gun. Officer Andrew Thrasher pulled over Diquan Nellon early Saturday morning for a faulty headlight.
One Dead, Two Hurt in Accident in Cross County Saturday Morning
A man is dead and a man an woman are injured after an accident Saturday morning near Wynne in Cross COunty. 24-year-old Keene Sykes of West Memphis died in the accident.
Ambulance service suing Cross County for alleged contract breach
CROSS COUNTY, AR - Cross County is being sued by an ambulance service for a breach of contract after the county judge placed another service in the rotation. A 3 year contract was signed between Southern Ambulance of Wynne and Cross County in 2012 that stated that service would have exclusive rights to Cross County.
Justices strikes Maryland tax, call it biased
The Supreme Court on Monday struck down as unconstitutional a Maryland tax that has the effect of double-taxing income that residents earn in other states. Maryland officials estimate the 5-4 ruling will cost the state about $200 million in refunds it will have to pay residents going back seven or eight years.
Man accused of stealing money bag from employer
WYNNE, AR - A judge found probable cause Thursday to charge a Wynne man with stealing from his employer. Christopher Tyler Davis, 18, is charged with breaking or entering, a class D felony; along with theft of property, possession of marijuana, and possession of a Schedule VI drug without a prescription, all misdemeanors.
7 armories to close, with governor's OK; Walnut Ridge's safe
Asa Hutchinson signed off Monday on closing armories, formally known as readiness centers, in Berryville, Blytheville, Brinkley, Crossett, Helena-West Helena, Rector and Wynne. The action decreases the number of armories in the state from 62 to 55. "We knew there was a lot of push-back," said Lt. "We looked at that and said, 'That's pretty heavy-handed,'" Bacon said. Bacon said there currently are no plans to shut down more armories. "We're going to be cautions and careful as we move forward through this year," Bacon said.
Wynne residents discuss city council agenda items
Wynne have their own ideas about what the city council will discuss at their meeting Tuesday, which involves extending a current sales tax and possibly taking ownership of the National Guard Armory building that closed down. Mayor Bob Stacy said the sales tax they plan to discuss has already been in effect for the past 5 years in Wynne. "There's nothing for the kids to do. Stacy explained there were a few ideas on what may happen with the building. He said it could possibly used to help with police and fire training, but nothing is set in stone.

Jonesboro group fights human trafficking in NEA
- A statewide organization is helping protect victims of human trafficking. Partners Against Human Trafficking is based in Little Rock and offers safe housing, medical exams and spiritual assistance to girls 18 and older. A group in Jonesboro wants to bring PATH to its community. Megan Brown and Audra King said Jonesboro's human trafficking case in May put this area on the map. They said the next step is forming a human trafficking taskforce for the city of Jonesboro, which would work with law enforcement and other local entities.
Cross County man charged with child pornography, federal investigation underway
- A Wynne man was charged with rape and computer child pornography after Homeland Security, Arkansas State Police and the Wynne Police Department raided his home Thursday night. Jeff Stewart with the Wynne Police Department, Joshua Logan Thornton, 31, of Wynne was charged with 4 counts of rape of a minor, endangering the welfare of a minor, and several other charges associated with child pornography. According to Stewart, 2 children were in Thornton's home at the time of his arrest on Lawson Avenue.
Region 8 bank is growing with purchase of 3 locations
- A Region 8 bank is growing. Cross County Bank, which is headquartered in Wynne, is purchasing SOUTHBank, F.S.B. SOUTHBank is headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama and has branches in Arkansas. Those 3 branches are in Blytheville, Manila and Osceola. According to a news release Monday, SOUTHBank has $110 million in assets. The sale is expected to be completed by mid-fall of 2015. Once the sale of the 3 branches is approved by federal regulators, they will operate under the name of First Commercial Bank.
2 men killed in head-on collision near Forrest City
- Arkansas State Police say two eastern Arkansas men have died following in a head-on collision on Highway 1 near Forrest City. The report says Leslie was northbound when the sport utility vehicle he was driving collided with a northbound car driven by Crumpton. The report says vehicles overturned and the car caught fire after the crash. The report says Crumpton was dead at the scene and Leslie was pronounced dead at a Memphis hospital. Organization encourages AR, MO residents to report human trafficking
Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter will work in a human trafficking task force to bring awareness of a growing problem in Missouri . According to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, 1,230 calls have been made since 2007. That is two times more than the calls received in Arkansas since then. The most recent case in Region 8 was reported in May . It was when Amber Nicole Johnson, 28, of Wynne was accused of forcing two girls, ages 14 and 17, into performing sexual acts for money.
Cross County mayor wins Mayor of the Year award
- A mayor in Cross County received the 2015 Mayor of the Year award from the Arkansas Association of Chiefs of Police in Hot Springs. Mayor Bob Stacy of Wynne received the award after Police Chief Jeff Sanders referred him to the association. Stacy has been the mayor of Wynne since 2011. In a letter sent by Sanders, he said Stacy works to strengthen every part of the city government and its staff. He said the mayor was also a big part in getting body cameras and additional vehicles for the police department to help them in their jobs.

There will be an election of officers. Cheerleading is open to those entering first through sixth grades. The chapter meets the fourth Monday of each month. Intermediate Survival will meet from 1-5 p.m., and adults are asked to bring a knife and up to 3 feet of string. Deadlines for calendar-item submissions are noon Friday for Thursday editions and noon Tuesday for Sunday editions.

Judge charged in battery case suspended from bench
Cabot District Judge Joe O'Bryan, arrested last Friday night for an alleged drunken assault on his girlfriend, should be suspended from the bench while his misdemeanor case is pending, the Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission decided today. The judge would be paid during the interim suspension. He didn't object to the motion. Police later found O'Bryan at his home in Cabot. He asked when the driver would be able to go to work. More details are to come from KARK's Marci Manley. The judge was in court when I called his law office.
