Wynne man accused of raping, impregnating 10-year-old girl

His arrest came after police were notified a 10-year-old girl being treated at a local hospital was found to be pregnant, according to a news release from Detective Mike Smith. Following an investigation by Wynne police and the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division, officers arrested and charged Smith with 3 counts of rape and one count of first degree child endangerment. 2, for plea and arraignment. If found guilty of the rape charge, Smith could be sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in prison.

Wynne tax extension passes

- The residents of Wynne have voted to pass a sales tax extension that will go towards better locations for two city groups. Region 8 News first talked to Mayor Bob Stacy about the tax in July . He said the Wynne City Hall and police department will receive new buildings with the help of the tax money. The tax will now last another 5 years. The vote passed with 399 for and 76 against. Stacy was pleased with the outcome and said the amount of people for the tax shows they approve of what the city wants to do.

Today a shocking series of ethical charges against Cross County District Judge Joseph Boeckmann of Wynne. This case has been simmering for months. Channel 4 broke news of the investigation first. No word has yet been forthcoming about the results of that separate probe. His seat is on the election ballot next year, but he has not filed for re-election. He most likely could have agreed to resign now and agreed never to serve again and been subject to a complaint more general in nature than these detailed complaints.

District judge recommended for reinstatement after dropping of battery charge

The Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission has recommended that Lonoke District Judge Joe O'Bryan be allowed to return to the bench. He had continued to be suspended with pay pending action by the Judicial Discipline Commission. A panel voted unanimously Thursday to dismiss the complaint and recommended reinstatment to the Arkansas Supreme Court, which has the final word. She said O'Bryan was a caring person and good judge. O'Bryan is on the ballot in March. On O'Bryan's ability to pass judgment on people accused of the same thing.

Waynesburg U. students traveling abroad on mission trips

Three groups of students and faculty members will be traveling abroad to the Nassau, Guatemala and to the island of Bonaire off of South America, with one group remaining in the country to visit Wynne, Ark. Education professors Julia Bausman and Frank Pazzynski are leading that team during the week-long trip. Students will also help to archive the station's documents and island archaeology. The next mission trips to New Orleans, Concord, N.C., Camden, N.J., and Carrillos, Costa Rica, are schedule for march during the spring break.

Theft suspects threaten to kill cops

- The Jonesboro Police Department has obtained warrants for arrest for a pair of suspected thieves. According to Detective Shay Racy of JPD, warrants have been issued for the arrest of Demario Hunt and Chris Sides Jr. Detective Racy notes that Demario Hunt has made postings on social media about "killing cops" and should be approached with caution. They may also be driving a black Lincoln Zephyr. The pair may also be in an older model Yukon or Tahoe with damage to the passenger's side light. You can also call Crimestoppers at 935-STOP.

Cross County deputies Tuesday morning found the bodies of Bobby Wright and Crystal Avellino at a home on Highway 64. Wright is believed to have shot Avellino and then himself.
